SYRACUSE — More than 3,000 fundraising runners and walkers from across Central New York joined the 30th anniversary Syracuse Heart Walk last Saturday (March 22) and helped raise $450,000 to fight heart disease and stroke, organizers say.
The Syracuse Heart Walk is a fundraiser for the American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association, whose missions are to build healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke. Over the past three decades, the Heart Walk in Syracuse has raised more than $5 million for lifesaving research, education, training, and advocacy programs, according to a news release from the associations.
This year’s event was held at the Onondaga Community College campus and included blood-pressure screenings, healthy demonstrations, a Fun Run for kids, and entertainment.
The signature sponsor of this year’s walk was Family Care Medical Group, PC. Dr. David Page, medical director of the Accountable Care Coalition of Syracuse and vice president of information technology of Family Care Medical Group, PC, and a practicing physician, served as the volunteer chairman, according to the release.
Another local major sponsor of the 2014 Syracuse Heart Walk was IBEW/NECA. The media partners were B104.7, News Channel 9 and the Business Journal News Network.
The Heart Walk is sponsored nationally by Subway.
