Syracuse, Ithaca regions gain more than 3,000 jobs in the last year

The Syracuse and Ithaca areas each added more than 3,000 jobs between January 2016 and this past January.

That’s according to the latest monthly employment report that the New York State Department of Labor issued on Thursday.

The Syracuse region added 3,500 jobs between January 2016 and this past January, an increase of 1.1 percent.

The Ithaca area gained 3,300 jobs in the same 12-month time period, up 5.5 percent.

The Utica–Rome metro region added 1,900 jobs, a 1.6 percent rise, between January 2016 and this past January.

The Binghamton region picked up 500 jobs, a 0.5 percent increase.

The Watertown–Fort Drum region also added 400 jobs between January 2016 and this past January, an increase of 1 percent.

New York state as a whole gained more than 132,000 jobs, an increase of 1.4 percent, in that 12-month time period. The state economy added nearly 29,000 jobs, or 0.3 percent, between December 2016 and January 2017, the labor department said.
