Syracuse men’s lacrosse advances to NCAA quarterfinals

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The Syracuse University men’s lacrosse team (13-2) played with fire again Sunday night but emerged with an 11-10 win over the Yale Bulldogs in a first-round NCAA Tournament game at the Carrier Dome.

The Orange used strong defense, led by goaltender Evan Molloy’s 15 saves, to overcome losing 18 of the game’s 22 faceoffs and being outshot 42-29. It was the 9th one-goal victory for the team this season in 11 such contests as the Orange continues its cardiac-kids’ ways.

No. 2 seeded Syracuse now advances to the NCAA quarterfinals to face the Towson Tigers on Sunday, May 21 at Noon at Delaware Stadium in Newark, Delaware. The game will be televised on ESPN2. Ticket information is available here.

The Orange has lost in the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Tournament in each of the last two years. A win over Towson would advance Syracuse to Championship Weekend (the lacrosse Final Four) for the first time since 2013. That takes place at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts May 27-29.
