Syracuse, neighboring CNY regions gain jobs in the last year

The Syracuse region added 3,100 jobs, and the Ithaca area picked up 1,400 jobs between March 2016 and this past March.

The Utica–Rome, Binghamton, and Watertown–Fort Drum regions also added jobs in the same period.

That’s according to the latest monthly employment report that the New York State Department of Labor issued on Thursday.

The Binghamton region picked up 1,000 jobs, also a 1 percent rise, in the past 12 months.

The Watertown–Fort Drum region added 400 jobs between March 2016 and this past March, again an increase of 1 percent.

New York state as a whole gained nearly 120,000 jobs, a rise of 1.3 percent, in that 12-month time period. However, the state economy lost more than 4,000 jobs in the last month (between February and March), the Labor Department said.
