The federal government has awarded Syracuse Hancock International Airport more than $5.4 million and Oswego County Airport $159,000.

The funding comes from the Infrastructure Investment & Jobs Act (IIJA), the office of U.S. Representative John Katko (R–Camillus) said Tuesday.

The Syracuse airport and Oswego County Airport can use the federal funding for projects that include renovations to runways, taxiways, and terminals; or to pay for safety and sustainability projects, airport-transit connections, and roadway projects.

“With these new funds, Syracuse Hancock International Airport and Oswego County Airport will be able to invest in improvements that make facilities safer and improve the flying experience for Central New Yorkers,” Katko said.

As co-chair of the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus’s infrastructure working group, Katko authored the framework that became the basis for this law, the lawmaker’s office said.
