ONONDAGA, N.Y. — Jaime Alicea, superintendent of schools for the Syracuse City School District (SCSD), has been appointed to Onondaga Community College’s (OCC) board of trustees.
Onondaga County Executive Joanie Mahoney appointed Alicea to the post, OCC said in a news release.
Alicea will be sworn-in during the board’s next meeting, which is scheduled for March 27 at 9:30 a.m. in room 210 of the college’s Whitney Applied Technology Center.
Alicea is a “lifelong” educator who began working in the Syracuse City School District (SCSD) in 1983 as a teaching assistant at Seymour Elementary School, according to OCC.
In his years with the district, Alicea has also served as a teacher, vice principal, principal, area superintendent, deputy superintendent, chief of operations and interim superintendent.
SCSD’s board of education named Alicea superintendent in March 2017.
“I am honored to have been chosen to represent the Syracuse City School District on the board of trustees at Onondaga Community College,” Alicea said in the release. “OCC has been a terrific partner for the district and a wonderful place for our graduates to continue their post-secondary education.”
Alicea is a graduate of the University of Puerto Rico and Syracuse University. He has also earned certificates from SUNY Oswego and the New York State Council of School Superintendents.
