SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Syracuse will face Washington State in the DIRECTV Holiday Bowl in San Diego on Dec. 27.

The game is set for 8 p.m. ET at Snapdragon Stadium. Fox Sports will televise the game.

It represents the third consecutive season that the Orange will end their season in a bowl game, Syracuse University (SU) said in its Sunday afternoon announcement. The Holiday Bowl will also represent SU’s third game in the Pacific Time Zone this season, having played and won at both UNLV and California.

The Orange, under first-year head coach Fran Brown, finished 9-3 after their Nov. 30 upset of the Miami Hurricanes, 42-38, in the JMA Wireless Dome. The team is ranked 21st in the final College Football Playoff committee ranking announced Sunday.

Besides the wins at California and UNLV, the Orange topped Georgia Tech in September and became bowl eligible with a win over Virginia Tech. The Orange lost their matchups with Stanford, Pittsburgh, and Boston College.

Washington State enters the game with an 8-4 record this season. Syracuse has played Washington State once previously, hosting the Cougars in 1979, SU said. That game was played at then Rich Stadium in Orchard Park as the Dome was under construction. The Orange won the contest 52-25.

It’s the 29th bowl game for the Syracuse football program, which has a 16-11-1 record in its 28 prior bowl appearances, per the SU announcement. Last December, South Florida shut out the Orange, 45-0, in the Boca Raton Bowl.
