Syracuse to open 2020 football season with visit to Boston College

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Conference road games to open and conclude the regular season, a rare Thursday night home game, and an ACC opponent that will make its first visit to the Carrier Dome on Halloween.

They’re all part of the 2020 Syracuse University football schedule, which the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) released Wednesday.

The Orange will open its 2020 schedule on the road against Boston College on Friday, Sept. 4. The following week, Syracuse visits Rutgers in their first meeting since 2012, when the two schools were part of the Big East Conference.

The Orange will host Colgate in its first home opener “inside the newly-renovated Carrier Dome” on Sept. 19, Syracuse athletics said in a news release.

The Cuse schedule also includes a Thursday night home finale on Nov. 19 against Florida State, representing the third time the Carrier Dome has hosted a Thursday night game.

The schedule also offers an Oct. 31 matchup in the Dome with Georgia Tech, which will make its first-ever visit to the Carrier Dome. It’s the teams’ first meeting since 2013, when the Yellow Jackets ran over the Orange, 56-0, in Atlanta.

Overall, the Syracuse slate includes six home games. The other three opponents are Louisville, Liberty, and N.C. State.

The Orange will also play road games at Western Michigan, Clemson, Wake Forest, and Pittsburgh, which wraps up the Syracuse season on Nov. 28.

Eight of Syracuse’s 2020 opponents played in bowl games this past year, with four winning their bowl. Five of the Orange’s foes won at least eight games in 2019.
