Syracuse University names Prieto director of development for Office of Program Development

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Syracuse University announced that it has appointed Adrian Prieto as director of development for its Office of Program Development.

The appointment, which took effect on June 26, establishes a “dedicated gift officer within the office to cultivate and increase giving among the university’s diverse alumni community,” the university said in a news release posted on its website.

Prieto’s job is to secure major gifts from African American and Latino alumni and increase overall giving among diverse alumni generally, the university said. He will also work on corporate partnerships for the “Coming Back Together” reunion event and the endowed scholarship fund, and on fundraisers and donor events.

Prieto comes to Syracuse from Cornell University, where he established a “strong record of success” in fundraising and relationship-building roles with increasing levels of responsibility, the release stated. He most recently served as assistant director for external relations at Cornell’s College of Business and assistant director for corporate relations in the School of Hotel Administration.

Prieto previously was an assistant director of the annual fund at Cornell’s Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management — a fundraising role.

For the last two years, Prieto also chaired the Alumni Affairs and Development Diversity Council at Cornell, which seeks to build awareness of and promote diversity and inclusion at the university.

Prieto is proficient in Spanish and Chinese (Mandarin), which will assist the Office of Program Development “connect more personally” with Latino and Asian alumni, the university said.
