The school has also placed Kavajecz on administrative leave from his faculty position “until further notice,” Michele Wheatly, Syracuse University vice chancellor and provost, said in a short news release posted Wednesday on the university’s website. She didn’t disclose the reasons for the moves.
Kavajecz, the 17th dean of the Whitman School, had served in the role since coming to Syracuse in July 2013, according to his biography page on the Whitman School website. He also instructed students as a professor of finance.
Wheatly said that J. Michael Haynie, vice chancellor and a tenured faculty member in the Whitman School, will lead the school “during this time of transition.”
Haynie also serves as executive director of the school’s Institute for Veterans and Military Families.
Wheatly and Haynie will meet with the Whitman community on Friday “at a time and place to be announced” to discuss “future interim leadership” of the Whitman School, Syracuse University said.
