SYRACUSE, N.Y. — A Syracuse University (SU) committee has selected three finalists in its competition to choose the designer for the upcoming National Veterans Resource Complex (NVRC).
The finalists include United Kingdom–based Adjaye Associates, New York City–headquartered SHoP, and Oslo, Norway–based Snohetta.
Each firm is also among the seven finalists to design the Obama Presidential Library in Chicago, SU said in a news release issued Wednesday.
The selection committee recently reviewed the qualifications of 28 architecture firms from around the globe.
The committee includes faculty, staff, students, and design professionals, the school said.
“The NVRC is a physical testament to Syracuse University’s commitment to supporting veterans and their families. I am confident the selection committee will find the right partner to bring this unique vision to life,” SU Chancellor Kent Syverud said in the school’s news release.
Representatives from the selected firms will travel to Syracuse in the coming weeks to view the site and to speak with members of the campus community about the history, goals, vision, and timeline for the new facility.
The firms will then return to the SU campus in April to present their final proposals to the selection committee.
The school will announce the winning firm in May.

The NVRC is one of the “signature” initiatives of the Central New York (CNY) regional economic-development council’s winning proposal titled “Central New York: Rising from the Ground Up.”
New York in December selected the CNY, Southern Tier, and Finger Lakes regions to receive $500 million as part of Gov. Cuomo’s $1.5 billion business competition.
The NVRC will house the SU and Regional Student Veteran Resource Center, the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps, the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs ‘Vet-Success on Campus,’ the National Center of Excellence for Veteran Business Ownership, Veteran Business Outreach Center and Accelerator, and SU’s Office of Veteran and Military Affairs, according to the news release.
