SYRACUSE, N.Y. — A member of the Syracuse University board of trustees and his family have donated $3 million to support ongoing renovation work at the John A. Lally Athletics Complex and the JMA Wireless Dome.
The funding from Syracuse trustee Edward (Ed) Pettinella and his family targets the first phase of work at the Lally Athletics Complex and construction of the Miron Victory Court, which is part of the renovation work at the JMA Dome.
Pettinella earned an MBA from Syracuse University in 1976.
The first phase of work at the Lally Athletics Complex includes construction of the One Team Olympic Sports Center and the football operations center. These two facilities will combine to support all 600 student-athletes and include updated dining and nutrition spaces, locker rooms, and medical training and strength and conditioning facilities, Syracuse University said in its Tuesday announcement.
The Miron Victory Court will physically connect the Barnes Center at The Arch and the JMA Dome, “ultimately changing the footprint” of the on-campus facility, per the Nov. 2019 announcement of the Mirons’ donation for the project.
“We are grateful for the support and leadership of Ed and his family. Their commitment to the John A Lally Athletics Complex and the JMA Wireless Dome will enhance the experience for all of our student-athletes at Syracuse and our fans who attend events at the JMA Wireless Dome,” John Wildhack, director of athletics at Syracuse University, said in a news release. “Ed’s gift provides tremendous momentum to two projects that are critical components of our long term vision for Syracuse Athletics.”
Pettinella is president and CEO of Home Properties in Rochester, which owns, operates, develops, acquires and rehabilitates apartment communities in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic, per the Syracuse University news release. He previously served as president of Charter One Bank of NY (now Citizens Bank) and executive VP of Charter One Financial Inc.
