CAMILLUS, N.Y. — The Summit Federal Credit Union’s (FCU) branch located at Township 5 in Camillus will close at the end of business on Saturday, May 1.

The credit union opened the branch in 2016 and at the time called it the “most technologically-advanced” of all its offices.

The Summit FCU said in a release that it will close the branch now because almost 70 percent of its members in Camillus are active users of the credit union’s mobile and online services, and the branch has seen declining traffic and fewer transactions for the past few years. In contrast, the Summit’s newest branches along Taft Road in Clay and in Cortland have had “steady streams” of members seeking in-person services.

“Part of our commitment to members is to keep our services relevant,” Laurie Baker, president and CEO of the Summit FCU, said. “We do this by assessing how we are fulfilling members’ needs, including how and where they make transactions.”

All employees of the Camillus branch will be offered employment in other areas of the Summit FCU. An ATM will remain on-site following the closing.

The Summit FCU serves 15,000 members and 40 member companies in Central New York.
