Tickets for 2023 PGA Championship in suburban Rochester are sold out

PITTSFORD, N.Y. — The upcoming PGA Championship at Oak Hill Country Club in Pittsford has sold out its ticket allotment.

An estimated 225,000 spectators are expected to attend the 2023 PGA Championship throughout the week of May 15-21 on Oak Hill’s famed East Course, organizers say.

“There’s a reason we’ve continued to come back to Monroe County, and being able to say that tickets are officially sold out for the 2023 PGA Championship is a testament to that decision,” 2023 PGA Championship Director Bryan Karns said in a Monday news release. “It’s a very good indicator that Rochester is a home for major championship golf, and Monroe County is the place you want to continue to come back to. Because of that support, I have no doubt it’s going to be an incredible week.”

The PGA of America is encouraging those still hoping to attend the 105th PGA Championship to use On Location’s Official Ticket Exchange, which provides an opportunity to buy and sell otherwise sold-out tickets.

An analysis led by Greater Rochester Enterprise (GRE) estimates the major championship will result in $190 million in economic activity and 1,233 jobs for the region. GRE, the lead economic-development organization in the nine-county Greater Rochester region, collaborated with the PGA of America on this year’s analysis. Estimates include ticket sales, concessions, merchandise, spectator projections, and hotel rooms reserved during championship week. GRE used data from the PGA of America to understand the impact across the regional supply chain in various industry sectors, including construction, food and beverage establishments, hotel and lodging, and real estate.

Of the estimated 225,000 spectators expected to attend the PGA Championship, about 39 percent of ticket holders will travel from more than 100 miles and spend money at local hotels, restaurants and retail establishments, per the PGA and GRE.

This will be the fourth PGA Championship contested at Oak Hill, which was designed by Donald Ross in 1925. The last one was held in 2013, when the tournament was won by Jason Dufner.

The 2023 PGA Championship will serve as the first major championship since a recent restoration by Andrew Green that returned the East Course layout more closely to Ross’ initial vision, the PGA said. Holes with notable changes from previous championships are Nos. 5, 6, and 15, and new greens and bunkers throughout bring the course in line with Ross’ initial drawings.

The PGA Championship is the only all-professional major in men’s golf. It began in 1916, just months after the birth of the PGA of America, and annually features the strongest field in men’s golf, based on the official world golf rankings, the PGA said.
