Tioga Chamber hosts fundraising and awards event on Sept. 24

NICHOLS, N.Y. — The Tioga County Chamber of Commerce will host its inaugural fundraising event and awards ceremony, the Chamber Stakes Awards, on Sept. 24 from 11:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at Tioga Downs Resort Casino, at 2384 W. River Road.

The event, which takes place on the last harness-racing day of the season, will feature brunch, upbeat Latin music, a Kentucky Derby–style hat parade, and a slew of awards.

“The Tioga County Chamber is proud to recognize the outstanding organizations and individuals who have worked to make Tioga County a better place to live, work, and play,” chamber President/CEO Sabrina Henriques said in an announcement for the event. “The 2022 Community Awards showcased each winner in a new, more accessible way, allowing all to join in the celebration of these extraordinary talents and contributions.”

State Sen. Fred Akshar will speak at the event, which also features Steps Performing Arts International Dance Studio and Ultra Vibe Duo.

Tickets for the event are $80 per person on a first-come, first-serve basis and will benefit the Tioga Chamber of Commerce Foundation Junior Chamber program and scholarship fund.

Event sponsors include Tioga Downs Casino Resort, Equinox Broadcasting, Brookdale, Community Bank, Chemung Canal Trust Company, State Line Auto Auction, GHS Credit Union, WEBO, and Owego Pennysaver.
