OWEGO, N.Y. — The Tioga County Chamber of Commerce board of directors has named Sabrina Henriques as the chamber’s new president and CEO.

Henriques began her new duties on Oct. 12, the Tioga Chamber said.

Gwen Kania, who previously served as president and CEO of the Tioga County Chamber of Commerce, retired in May 2020 after 12 years at the organization. Sally Yablonski has been serving as the interim president and CEO of the Tioga Chamber since then.

“We are certainly fortunate to bring Sabrina on board as our new president and CEO,” LeeAnn Tinney, chairperson of the Tioga County Chamber of Commerce board of directors, said in a release. “She brings with her extensive knowledge and background in the world of nonprofits, fundraising, and community relations.”

As Tioga County Chamber president and CEO, Henriques is responsible for leadership, operational planning and management, fundraising, advocacy, and business development. Her immediate goals involve expanding the chamber’s reach.

“My current plans for the Chamber involve building a targeted marketing plan to increase membership, expand existing programs to include young adults and youth, and identify potential grant funding sources,” Henriques said.

Henriques has an “extensive” background living and working all over the country and world, working with both federal and nonprofit organizations.

She most recently served as director of development and communications with Catholic Charities of Broome County.

Prior to her move to Tioga County, her experience also included serving as executive director for the Danville Library Foundation in Illinois, fundraising and quality manager for the Goodwill International Foundation in Colorado, program manager for the Aviano Community Center in Italy, and fielding director for SMS Hawaii in Honolulu.

Henriques is currently working to complete a master’s degree in accounting and finance to accompany her undergraduate degree in business and quality assurance.
