OWEGO, N.Y. — The New York State Community Action Agency (NYSCAA) recently elected Tioga Opportunities, Inc. executive director Maureen Abbott as president of the NYSCAA board for a three-year term.
Abbott previously served as board VP from 2020-2022.
“It is an honor to serve in the capacity of board president of NYSCAA,” she said in a press release. “NYSCAA serves the diverse network of Community Action Agencies through the state through training and technical assistance, IT support, and a variety of learning communities, and acts as a liaison between the network and the New York State Department of State. It works to strengthen the capacity of populations and low-income individuals and families.”
The NYSCAA board is comprised of individuals from member agencies. Incorporated in 1987, NYSCAA provides agencies with information, professional development, and technical assistance.
Abbott joined Tioga Opportunities as executive director in June 2015. Prior to that, she served at Chautauqua Opportunities, Inc., a sister agency, for 25 years. Tioga Opportunities has served Tioga County since 1965 and is one of 48 community action agencies in the state.
