Tompkins County Sheriff’s office identifies man, no longer “person of interest” in robbery

1/22, 3:10 pm Update: LANSING, N.Y. — The Tompkins County Sheriff’s office says it has identified a man sought in connection with the Jan. 17 robbery of the Cornell Federal Credit Union in Lansing.

In a statement, the sheriff’s office said, “…we have identified the white, male individual and he is no longer a person of interest in relation to the case.”

The sheriff’s office had circulated a photo of the man through area media.

Jan. 19. 11:24 a.m. story

LANSING, N.Y. — A day after releasing dramatic video and photos of Wednesday’s armed robbery at the Cornell Federal Credit Union (CFCU) branch in Lansing, the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office announced it is looking for a second man, described as “person of interest in relation to the ongoing investigation.”

The individual appears to be a 5-foot-10-inch tall white male with long dark hair and a goatee. He was wearing a black trench coat and sunglasses as he entered the CFCU branch at 99 Sheraton Drive in the village of Lansing, according to images provided by the sheriff’s office.

In its news release, the sheriff’s office did not provide further information about why this man a person of interest. The office also didn’t disclose what his possible connection is to the robbery suspect, described as a 6-foot-tall black male in a black hooded sweatshirt, black face mask and tan or khaki pants with dark shoes. That individual entered the credit union displayed a handgun, and demanded money from tellers shortly after 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
