WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. — Tops Markets, LLC, which operates nearly 40 grocery stores across the 16-county Central New York area, recently announced that it has promoted David Langless to chief financial officer.

As CFO, Langless will oversee all finance, accounting, and planning strategies at Tops Markets and will also handle banking and investor relationships. Additionally, he will serve as a member of Tops’ Executive Committee, the company says.

Langless joined Tops Markets in 2008 and during his tenure has held the position of director of financial reporting. In 2010, he was promoted to vice president and chief accounting officer.

“During the past six years Dave’s knowledge, skills, and ability as a leader have made him a great asset to this organization,” Frank Curci, chairman, president, and CEO of Tops Markets, said in a Nov. 5 news release. “I am certain that under his leadership, Tops will continue to grow and succeed.”

Langless replaces William R. Mills, who resigned as Tops’ CFO in early October, at the end of the company’s fiscal third quarter.

Prior to joining Tops Markets, Langless served as director of financial reporting at Mark IV Industries, Inc. Before that, he spent six years in the assurance and business risk services practices of Ernst & Young, according to the Tops release.

Langless has more than 15 years of accounting and finance experience. He is a certified public accountant, holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Canisius College and a master’s degree in business administration from the University at Buffalo, School of Management.

Tops Markets, headquartered in Williamsville (near Buffalo), operates 162 supermarkets — 157 company-owned and five franchise locations — in upstate New York, northern Pennsylvania, and western Vermont. It has more than 16,000 employees.
