UnitedHealthcare expands Community Plan service area in New York

UnitedHealthcare (UHC) Community Plan has expanded its state-government sponsored health-insurance programs to include 13 additional counties, doubling the number of counties where the plan is now available.

The additional counties are located in the Central New York, Capital, and Hudson Valley regions, the health insurer said in a news release.

UHC’s government-sponsored health-insurance programs were already available in New York City and on Long Island and in some areas of Central New York, the health insurer said.

UnitedHealthcare Community Plan offers policies for individuals and families who may qualify for Medicaid, Family Health Plus, Child Health Plus or New York Medicaid Advantage, or have dual eligibility, for those plans.

These plans provide health coverage that includes prevention, primary care, hospitalization, prescriptions and other services “often with little or no cost,” UnitedHealthcare said.

The UHC Community Plan is now available in Central New York counties that include Broome, Cayuga, Chenango, Herkimer, Jefferson, Madison, Monroe, Oneida, Onondaga, Oswego, and Tioga counties, according to the news release.

UnitedHealthcare serves more than 3.8 million New York residents with a care- provider network of 230 hospitals and more than 46,000 physicians and other health-care professionals statewide.

UnitedHealthcare is part of the Minnetonka, Minn.–based UnitedHealth Group, Inc. (NYSE: UNH).
