Unshackle Upstate endorses NY legislative candidates

The business advocacy organization Unshackle Upstate endorsed nine New York State Senate candidates and 21 Assembly candidates today through its political action committee, UPAC.

Endorsed Senate candidates with district territory in Central New York, the Mohawk Valley, the Southern Tier, or Northern New York include incumbent James Seward, who is running on the Republican, Conservative, and Independence party tickets for the 51st District and Michael Nozzolio, an incumbent running on the Republican, Conservative, and Independence tickets for the 54th District.

Assembly candidates in those regions receiving Unshackle Upstate’s endorsements include incumbents Janet Duprey running for the 115th District, Ken Blankenbush running for the 117th District, and Anthony Brindisi running for the 119th District. Duprey is running on the Republican and Independence tickets, Blankenbush is on the Republican, Conservative, and Independence lines, and Brindisi is on the Democratic and Independence lines.

“These representatives have demonstrated a commitment to fiscal responsibility and to helping all taxpayers in New York,” Greater Binghamton Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Lou Santoni said in a news release. “It is just as important to acknowledge when our representatives are doing right by us as it is when their actions have negative effects on our economy. By supporting strong leaders, we can create the kind of partnerships that will put New York on the path to prosperity.”

Unshackle Upstate evaluated its legislative scorecards, candidate responses to questionnaires, and input from regional business leaders when formulating its endorsements.

“The 30 candidates that we’ve endorsed today are committed to improving New York’s business climate and easing the burden on taxpayers,” Unshackle Upstate Executive Director Brian Sampson said. “These men and women have earned the opportunity to go to Albany and serve their constituents.”
