SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Upstate Medical University has completed its employee relocation to the Galleries of Syracuse at 441 S. Salina St. in Syracuse.
A group of 60 employees with Upstate’s patient-access services department on Friday moved to the Galleries from 250 Harrison St, the medical school said in a news release issued Monday.
The latest move brings the total number of Upstate employees now working in the Galleries to 400, the school said.
Earlier, an additional 170 employees from Upstate’s finance department had moved to the Galleries on Nov. 11, Darryl Geddes, Upstate’s director of public and media relations, said in an email response to a BJNN inquiry.
Upstate in late August initially relocated 170 employees from its information-management technology department to the Galleries.
Previously, employees in the finance and information-management technology departments worked out of offices on Widewaters Parkway in DeWitt, which is located about six miles from the Upstate campus.
The new location puts these offices “just blocks away from campus,” Upstate said.
“We’re very happy with our new location at the Galleries of Syracuse,” Thomas Pelis, Upstate assistant VP for facilities and management, said in the news release. “By relocating our employees, we bring them closer to campus and add to the vibrancy of downtown, after all Syracuse is Upstate’s hometown.”
The move “increases significantly” the space available to Upstate, from 45,000 square feet in the DeWitt offices to 60,000 square feet at the Galleries.
Upstate occupies the Galleries’ fourth and fifth floors, which the Onondaga County Library previously occupied. The library now has a street-level entrance.
Besides the employees who moved to the Galleries, the two-dozen hospital-purchasing employees who remain at the Widewaters office complex will move downtown this winter when they relocate to Upstate’s Sarah Loguen Center at 650 S. Salina St. in Syracuse, Upstate said.
