Upstate Medical, Crouse Health to host public forums on upcoming Upstate acquisition

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Upstate Medical University and Crouse Health will hold two public forums on Upstate’s proposed acquisition of Crouse.

The sessions are set for Aug. 15 at the North Syracuse Junior High School at 5353 Taft Road in North Syracuse and Aug. 18 at the Southwest Community Center at 401 South Ave. in Syracuse.

Both sessions will run from 5:30-7 p.m. Doors open at 5 p.m.

Upstate and Crouse officials will discuss the proposed acquisition and take comments from members of the community about the proposal.

“We are happy to engage with the community as this process moves forward,” Dr. Mantosh Dewan, president of Upstate Medical University, said in a release. “Now that the parties have filed formal applications, we are excited to share more information with the public and hear from our local community.”

Upstate and Crouse won’t be able to discuss some issues related to the acquisition, due to the ongoing regulatory review by the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) and New York Attorney General Letitia James, among others.

It’s expected the necessary regulatory approvals “may take several months,” Upstate noted.

Upstate Medical University on April 14 announced plans to acquire the operations of Crouse Health, which would become part of the Upstate Medical University Health System.
