SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America (POSNA) has recently elected Dr. Stephen Albanese to its presidential line.
He is currently serving as vice president of POSNA and will take over as president of the society for one year, beginning in 2019, Upstate Medical University said in a news release issued Thursday.
Albanese is chairman of Upstate Medical’s department of orthopedic surgery.
The Rosemont, Illinois–based POSNA is a professional society of more than 1,200 surgeons, physicians and allied health professionals “dedicated to advancing musculoskeletal care for children and adolescents through education, research, quality, safety and value initiatives, advocacy, and global outreach to children in underserved areas,” according to the organization’s website.
Albanese has held other national leadership posts, including president of the Chapel Hill, North Carolina–based American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS). ABOS is the national certifying body for orthopaedic surgeons. He also chaired the oral-examination committee for two years during his 10-year term as an ABOS director.
In addition, Albanese is a member of the board of directors of the Chicago, Illinois–based Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), where he currently serves as chairman of the program-requirements committee, according to Upstate’s news release.
