Upstate Medical University reaches articulation agreement with SUNY Fredonia

SYRACUSE  —  The State University of New York (SUNY) Upstate Medical University has inked an articulation agreement with SUNY Fredonia, creating a pipeline for students to move from the western New York university to SUNY Upstate’s College of Medicine.

SUNY Fredonia joins a growing file of schools signed up for articulation agreements with SUNY Upstate. Other agreements include deals with Clarkson University, Hobart and William Smith Colleges, St. Bonaventure University, St. Lawrence University, Siena College, SUNY Geneseo, the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry, SUNY Potsdam, Wilkes University, Elmira College, SUNY Cobleskill, and Cornell University. Cayuga Community College also started promoting a similar arrangement this fall.

“The hope is that these students will go back after receiving their medical degrees and practice medicine in their local communities, bringing better health-care standards to rural and disadvantaged communities,” SUNY Upstate Director of Admissions Jennifer Welch said in a news release.

Fredonia students who complete required courses in biology and meet certain academic requirements — including SAT scores of at least 1250 — will be eligible to take advantage of the new agreement. They will also need to interview with a selection committee.
