Brant Auto Parts specializes in the recycling of ferrous and nonferrous scrap metal, including batteries, Owego–based Upstate Shredding said in a news release.
Upstate Shredding-Ben Weitsman, which says it’s the largest, privately owned scrap dealer on the East Coast, didn’t release financial details for what it called “an all cash transaction.”
The company will retain the existing staff at Brant Auto Parts, but Upstate Shredding didn’t provide a figure on the Brant employee count.
Brant Auto Parts is located less than an hour north of Jamestown and 40 minutes south of Buffalo, the company said.
“This location is perfect for our western expansion plans as we continue to build out our footprint and acquire yards that are strategically located in the Northeast,” Adam Weitsman, owner of Upstate Shredding and Ben Weitsman, said in the news release.
A “number of suitors” have been working to acquire the Brant Auto Parts in the last 10 years, Tim Dodson, former owner, said in the news release.
“This business has been a fixture in our community and it was very important to us that whomever we considered selling to had the same community focus that we do,” Dodson said.
The yard in Irving represents the 18th acquisition for Upstate Shredding-Ben Weitsman as the firm pursues a goal of 50 acquisitions, the company said.
The firm in January announced the asset acquisition of Jack’s Recycling in Mt. Morris, Pa.
Its other recent acquisitions, “more than doubling its geographic-market reach,” have included other firms in Western New York, including Hornell Waste Material in Hornell and Valley Recycling in Allegany, Upstate Shredding said in its Jan. 22 news release regarding the Mt. Morris acquisition.
Upstate Shredding and Ben Weitsman expects to process more than 1 million tons of ferrous and 250 million pounds of nonferrous metal in 2014, the company said in today’s news release.
Upstate Shredding-Ben Weitsman generated more than $500 million in revenue in 2012.
