Upstate Shredding hires Van Slyke as CFO

OWEGO, N.Y. — Upstate Shredding, LLC and sister company Weitsman Recycling announced the recent hiring of Tony Van Slyke as the company’s new CFO.

Van Slyke will be responsible for the company’s administrative, financial, and risk-management operations.

His duties will include the development of a financial and operational strategy; metrics tied to that strategy; and the “ongoing development and monitoring” of control systems designed to “preserve company assets and report accurate financial results,” the firm said in a news release.

Prior to joining Upstate Shredding – Weitsman Recycling, Van Slyke worked as the controller and CFO for Onondaga Beverage Corp. in Clay since 1996. Before that, Van Slyke was the controller for Best Brands Beverage in DeWitt from 1991 to 1995.

Van Slyke earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting from SUNY Oswego and is a certified public accountant, according to the release.

Upstate Shredding’s previous CFO was Dan Innarella, who served in the position from November 2012 to February 2017, according to his LinkedIn profile. He is now president and CEO of J&D Impact Solutions, LLC, Health — a wellness and prosperity coaching business — and president and CEO of Your Choice Real Estate, LLC — a real-estate investment business, per the profile.

Upstate Shredding – Weitsman Recycling describes itself as the “East Coast’s largest privately held” scrap-metal processor, operating 18 locations throughout New York and Pennsylvania.

The company will process more than 1 million tons of ferrous and 250 million pounds of nonferrous scrap metal in 2017, according to its release.
