ONONDAGA — Upstate University Hospital has moved its Central New York Bariatric Surgery Center to its Community Campus to keep up with ballooning patient demand.
The bariatric surgery center is now housed in 4,500 square feet of space at the Physician’s Office Building at 4900 Broad Road in the town of Onondaga. It had been in 1,800 square feet at the Institute for Human Performance at 505 Irving Ave. in Syracuse.
“Our volume has increased significantly,” Marcy Walser, a nurse practitioner with the practice, said in a news release. “This new location provides us with more space, more privacy, and greater comfort for our patients.”
Upstate expects the center to perform 500 bariatric surgeries this year, the most since its opening in 2002. Its new office will be able to schedule about 40 appointments per day.
All patients will visit the new Community Campus center for pre-operative and post-operative appointments. However, Upstate will perform surgeries at both the Community Campus and its Downtown Campus at 750 E. Adams St. in Syracuse.
Upstate’s bariatric surgical offerings include laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding, Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, and gastric-sleeve resection surgeries.
