SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Upstate University Hospital has suspended or terminated about 113 employees who didn’t comply with the state mandate to receive a COVID-19 vaccine by Tuesday morning’s deadline.
Most of the employees have been suspended and are “pending employment action,” the hospital said in a Thursday statement. The number remains fluid as disciplinary hearings continue.
The unvaccinated employees can still get the shot, “comply with the vaccine mandate,” and return to their positions, the hospital added.
Upstate University Hospital continues to assess staffing and will make changes to operations and services “as needed, to ensure safety and high-quality care.”
The Upstate University Hospital vaccination rate is about 96 percent, per the statement.
