WATERTOWN, N.Y. — State police in Watertown this week arrested a Utica resident for passing counterfeit $100 bills at Walmart stores in the towns of Watertown, Leray, and Lowville.
Starmecca K. Belton, 32 was charged with three counts of first-degree possession of a forged instrument (a felony), three counts of fourth-degree conspiracy (a felony), and three counts of petit larceny (a misdemeanor).
Police began their investigation after two individuals were captured on surveillance video using counterfeit bills at the Walmart stores, located in Jefferson and Lewis counties.
Belton was arraigned in Jefferson County Court and remanded to the Jefferson County Jail in lieu of $7,500 cash bail.
State Police say the investigation is continuing.
