Utica’s Mi Casa Restaurant on Thursday formally marks one year in business

UTICA, N.Y. — Mi Casa Restaurant, a Dominican-owned, sit-down eatery in Utica, will formally mark one year in business with a ribbon-cutting event with the Greater Utica Chamber of Commerce on Thursday at 11:30 a.m.

Mi Casa, located at 1315 E. Genesee St., offers “fine Caribbean food that has been delighting patrons for the past year,” the chamber boasted in an email announcement.

The restaurant’s owner and chef, Luisa Martinez, learned her craft at a high-end resort in the Dominican Republic and has 22 years of experience.

Mi Casa contends on its website that it offers the freshest ingredients — all natural with no preservatives and no additives.

The restaurant’s specialty dish is Pachuga Del Valle — chicken breast stuffed with sweet plantains and mozzarella in a cheese sauce with yucca puree. Other menu items include Mofongo, Chimi Dominicano (Dominican Hamburger), and the Mar De Amores (Seafood Paella), per the chamber email.

Mi Casa also serves beer and wine at the bar, offers karaoke on Sundays, and music on Friday and Saturday nights, the chamber adds.
