Utica to host Division III college hockey’s “Frozen Four” in March

UTICA, N.Y. — Utica College, the Utica Memorial Auditorium, and the City of Utica will host the 2017 NCAA Division 3 men’s hockey semifinals and finals March 24 and 25.

The event is also known as the “Frozen Four.” It’s college hockey’s version of college basketball’s “Final Four.” Division 1 hockey also has a Frozen Four.

The event represents the first time in more than 50 years that the Utica Memorial Auditorium will host an NCAA championship final, the City of Utica said in a news release issued Wednesday.

It also marks the first time in school history that Utica College will host an NCAA Division III championship final.

The NCAA Division 3 men’s hockey committee selected the Utica Memorial Auditorium back in 2013 and was “ultimately approved” by the appropriate divisional championships cabinet.

The committee includes coaches and administrators from NCAA member schools and conferences.
