VERNON, N.Y. — Vernon Downs Casino Hotel recently donated more than $72,000 to the Food Bank of Central New York. Established in 1985, the federally funded, state-administered program provides free food to those in need across upstate New York.

In July, Vernon Downs pledged to contribute 100 percent of the ticket sales from its “Three Dog Night” benefit concert to the Food Bank, with owner Jeffrey Gural matching that amount.

On Sept. 22, during Hunger Action Month, Vernon Downs made good on that pledge with a check for $72,360 presented to the Food Bank.

The Food Bank, with 367 community partners, serves Cayuga, Chenango, Cortland, Herkimer, Jefferson, Lewis, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, Oswego, and St. Lawrence counties through education, advocacy, and food distribution.

Vernon Downs Casino Hotel includes a casino with more than 500 games, harness racing, and self-bet terminals for thoroughbred and harness-racing tracks in the country. It also serves as a New York State Lottery Customer Service Center.
