Syracuse is coming off an 80-62 home loss to No. 22 Florida State. The Orange fell behind by 22 points in the first half, before rallying to as close to 1 point, before the Seminoles pulled away for good. Guard Tyus Battle led the Cuse with 23 points. Forward Oshae Brissett produced a double-double with 16 points, 12 rebounds.
Boston College enters Saturday’s game after an 80-55 loss at Duke on Tuesday night, a game the Eagles led by 2 points at halftime before the Blue Devils steamrolled them in the second half. BC has lost three straight contests.
What’s at stake for Syracuse?
Before the Florida State game, Syracuse had won five of its last six games and was in position to possibly put the NCAA Tournament bubble behind it with a win over the nationally ranked Seminoles. But, the Orange crashed and burned Tuesday evening and are back fighting for their NCAA Tournament lives. The Cuse needs to find a way to get three more ACC wins in its daunting slate of eight remaining league contests, so it can get to the magic number of 10 ACC wins. Looking at the schedule, it’s very hard to count to 10 victories without a win over Boston College. Simply put, this game (and the one at cellar-dweller Wake Forest on March 2) is a must win for the Orange.
Saturday’s contest is the 75th all-time meeting between Syracuse and Boston College, with the Orange leading the series 48-26, including an 8-3 lead since the joining the ACC five years ago. The teams just played on Jan. 30 in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts with Syracuse winning 77-71.
