What channel is the Syracuse basketball game on? (vs. Cornell)

Tyus Battle

Syracuse enters the Cornell matchup off two straight wins. The Orange secured a signature win for its NCAA Tournament résumé by beating No. 16 Ohio State 72-62 on the road. The Buckeyes entered the game ranked No. 1 in the NCAA’s new NET metric that it will use to select and seed the 2019 NCAA Tournament field. Before beating the Buckeyes, Syracuse defeated Colgate 77-56 in senior point guard Frank Howard’s return from injury. The Orange clearly look like a much better basketball team with Howard back in the lineup, particularly defensively. Syracuse surrendered more than 80 points in both of its ugly losses in the 2K Classic in New York City, while it has held opponents under 60 points, on average, in two wins since Howard’s return.

Cornell comes into the Dome after a 63-58 overtime win at Lafayette on Wednesday evening. Cornell sophomore forward Jimmy Boeheim, eldest son of Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim, is the Big Red’s second-leading scorer at 11.7 points per game. Cornell is led by senior guard Matt Morgan, who scores nearly 24 points a contest and is shooting 49 percent on his three-point shots. Morgan entered his name into the NBA Draft each of the last two years before withdrawing and returning to school.

The other Boeheim in the Syracuse-Cornell matchup, of course, is Syracuse freshman guard Buddy Boeheim, who is averaging 2 points per game so far in his young career. He did not play in the Ohio State game after playing an average of nearly 16 minutes a game in his first five contests.

This will be the 124th all-time meeting between Syracuse and Cornell, with the Orange holding a 92-31 lead in the series. Syracuse has beaten the Big Red in 38 straight games, including last season’s 77-45 triumph at the Carrier Dome on opening night. Jimmy Boeheim scored 11 points for Cornell in his college debut, including his team’s first five points of the contest.
