Whitman School appoints Penfield as director of executive education

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The Martin J. Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University has appointed Patrick Penfield as director of executive education.

Penfield, professor of supply chain practice at Whitman, most recently directed the school’s executive-education programs focused on supply chain management, according to a Whitman news release. He has more than 10 years experience with non-degree and executive-education programs.

In his new role, Penfield will solicit new executive-education opportunities across all disciplines and will administer the programs, leading a team of faculty to teach the classes, the release stated. The Whitman School sees growth opportunities in this field.

“Executive education is a growth area in business education,” Kenneth Kavajecz, dean of the Whitman School, said in the release. “We continue to hear from corporations and organizations that need to train their employees and leaders in everything from leadership training to project management. Pat’s appointment helps us focus our efforts in this area, leading to our goal of building a comprehensive executive education program.”

The Whitman School currently offers a non-credit bearing executive certification in supply chain management on completion of any of the five courses it teaches, including “Introduction to Supply Chain, Six Sigma Black Belt, Supply Chain Systems, Project Management, Fundamentals of Sourcing and Lean Management, and Lean Champion.”

The courses are mostly taught online, but a few are also offered through multi-day sessions, the release stated.
