Winter Fair planned for the State Fair Expo Center in February

GEDDES, N.Y. — It’s described as “the best of the Great New York State Fair, but indoors and in mid-winter.”

The new Winter Fair 2019, a mini version of the State Fair, is set for the Expo Center at the State Fairgrounds Feb. 8-10, the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets said in a Tuesday news release. The department operates the State Fair.

The winter event will include the food, rides, music and entertainment “that fairgoers know and love,” per the news release.

“The State Fair is the best and biggest party of the summer in upstate New York. Our goal is to create the best party of the winter by borrowing some of the elements that make the Fair so great. We know this will be a good time and a great way to push aside the mid-winter blues,” Steve Becker, owner of Premier Promotions, the promoter of Winter Fair, said in the release.

Winter Fair will include vendors offering a wide variety of fun foods and Fair favorites, like sausage sandwiches. A mini-midway will include rides, such as a merry-go-round, giant slide, tilt-a-whirl, a fun house and amusement games.

The entertainment lineup includes music from a number of bands, including the Todd Hobin Band, the Blacklites, and the Chris Taylor Custom Band.

The promoter is also working with organizers of the Van Robinson Pan-African Village at the Fair to also bring some elements of that area to Winter Fair as well.

“We’re sure that families will be looking for something fun to do together in February and are very excited to see this new event grow and prosper. It’s another example of how the new Expo Center is changing the game for major events in Upstate New York,” Troy Waffner, Fair Director, contended.

Advance tickets go on sale this Monday. Admission is $4 for adults and $2 for teens and seniors. Children 12 and under will be admitted free of charge.
