Work begins on stretch of I-88 in Otsego County

Work has begun on a $21.8 million project to resurface a section of roadway on Interstate 88 from the town of Maryland to the town of Worcester in Otsego County, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul announced.

The work, which spans from exit 18 to exit 19, will restore a smoothriding surface to support traffic between the Southern Tier and the Capital Region, the governors office contended in a news release.

Along with resurfacing just over eight miles of pavement, other work will take place on the bridges over South Hill Road and on 16 small culverts. Work will last until early 2026, and motorists should expect new traffic patterns between exits 18 and 19.

The I-88 corridor serves as an important tourism gateway to attractions including the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown and Howe Caverns in Schoharie County.

This section gets lots of local traffic as well as a primary route for those coming to visit our beautiful county, Otsego County Chairman Edwin J. Frazier, Jr. said. These repairs will make it much easier and safer for those that travel on I-88.
