SENECA FALLS, N.Y. — Xylem Inc.’s announced plans to lay off 36 workers from its facility in Seneca Falls will affect only workers in its global financial shared services group, a company spokesperson says.

Employees at Xylem’s Gould Water Technology were told in January that the positions would be eliminated, says Xylem’s Kelly McAndrew. The layoffs will take place at the start of June.

McAndrew tells BJNN that several more positions, “we expect less than 10,” will be eliminated from the same group at the end of June.

The global financial shared services group provides back-office services for Xylem, primarily in North America but also globally, she adds.

Xylem, headquartered in Rye Brook, N.Y., does business in 150 countries, has 16,000 employees worldwide, and reported sales of $4.7 billion for 2017.

Its products include equipment that treats, moves, analyzes, monitors, and returns water to the environment. Customers include utilities, industrial, commercial, and residential services.

In 2016, Xylem reported 338 employees in Seneca Falls and Auburn, where the company has a 300,000-square-foot production facility. The Seneca Falls plant includes testing facilities and Xylem’s Campbell Education Center and laboratory.
