Xylem to lay off 36 workers in Seneca Falls

SENECA FALLS, N.Y. — Xylem Inc., a maker of water-treatment equipment, will be laying off 36 of 138 employees at its plant in Seneca Falls.

The company filed a legally required Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (or WARN notice) on Friday, March 2.

In the notice, Xylem said the first employee separations are expected June 1.

In the filing, the company gave no reason for the layoffs other than, “economic.”

Xylem, headquartered in Rye Brook, N.Y., does business in 150 countries, has 16,000 employees worldwide, and reported sales of $4.7 billion for 2017.

Its products include equipment that treat, move, analyze, monitor and return water to the environment. Customers include utilities, industrial, commercial, and residential services.

Xylem operates under many brands, including Goulds Water Technology.

In 2016, Xylem reported 338 employees in Seneca Falls and Auburn, where the company has a 300,000-square-foot production facility. The Seneca Falls plant includes testing facilities and Xylem’s Campbell Education Center and laboratory, according to the company website.
